POWER aims to introduce local high school students from historically marginalized communities to topics in sustainability and energy research. We are motivated by the goal of diversifying the pipeline of future energy leaders.

Who are we?

We are a group of undergraduate and graduate students as well as post-docs at Stanford University involved in sustainability and energy research on topics such as catalysis and energy storage. Brought together by Stanford Energy Club, we are interested in all aspects of energy including engineering, technology, business, law, and finance. All of our volunteers have completed a Live Scan background check.

What is Our Goal?

The goals of POWER are to (1) establish a mentorship bridge between Bay Area high school students and Stanford students conducting energy research, and (2) empower underrepresented students with the technical skills and self-confidence to pursue higher education and careers in energy.

What does pOWEr offer?

Throughout the academic year (October-June), POWER teachers will travel to local high schools and host in-person workshops on science and engineering fundamentals that underpin cutting-edge energy technologies of the 21st century. The workshops will be approximately 1.5 - 2hrs total (flexible) and include hands on activities to teach and explore scientific concepts.

In addition to workshops, POWER will introduce students to active areas of energy research through lab tours at Stanford and professional panels to provide insight into energy research, career paths, and opportunities for students to explore.
